### FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SCULPTOR CHRISTOPHER CARTER PRESENTED AT THE NORTH SPRING STREET GALLERY, JULY 22nd AUGUST 30th, 2006
Los Angeles, CA (July 1, 2006,) Rubber, wood, found metals, recycled materials become the palette from which Oakland based sculptor Christopher Carter culls the sculptural compositions that makes up his current series of work. These sculptural haikus, poems of distressed, carved wood sealed with amber, rubber and epoxy become the fascinating opus of the sculptures exhibited at the North Spring Street Gallery.
North Spring Street Gallery presents Christopher Carters latest work, Topical from July 22 August 30, 2006. The gallery is located at 648 North Spring Street, Chinatown, Los Angeles.
A reception for the artist will be held on Saturday, July 22 from 7-10pm.
Christopher Carter has created an impressive body of work in a variety of disciplines and media throughout his career. He creates still and kinetic/interactive sculpture, paintings and woodcuts.
Born in Albuquerque, NM and raised in Boston, MA, his work reflects his African-American, Native and European heritage. This blend of ethnic and urban influences is apparent in all of his work.
While mining through my collection of gathered materials; comparisons and concepts are unearthed and explored, suggesting meaning and relevance when pushed to a sculptural form.
Recent exhibitions include the 2004 ARTBASEL/MIAMI in which Christopher received a grant to prepare a site-specific work for this show through the OMNIART project. In addition, his work will be purchased by the Grand Rapids Arts Museum (GRAM www.gramonline.org) for their reopening in Fall 2007.
Christopher has been a visiting professor at University of California, Berkeley and currently teaches at the San Francisco Art Institute. He has work in private collections within the US, Jamaica and Hong Kong. He lives in Oakland, Ca with his wife and daughter.
